a-1 home care dementiaThe decrease of dopamine in the brain correlates with the decreased ability to voluntarily control muscle movement, which is a hallmark trait of Parkinson’s disease.  The role of dopamine in humans and animals is multifaceted; it’s associated with movement, memory, mood, learning, sleep, behavior, pleasurable reward, and cognition.  In Parkinson’s disease, the abnormally low levels of dopamine results in no voluntary control over muscles, loss of sense of smell, constipation, and sleep disturbance.  As time progresses, the symptoms get worse.  For 25 years, concerned family members have turned to A-1 Home Care in La Mirada for 24-hour in-home support for their elderly loved ones.  Round-the-clock caregiver support gives immense relief to full-time working adults and personalized care for seniors with Parkinson’s.

Overnight Care for Sleep Disorders Associated with Parkinson’s

Is your elderly loved one keeping you up all night because of his insomnia?  Are you too anxious to go back to sleep for fear that your loved one might wander out of the house or trip and fall?  A-1 Home Care in La Mirada provides 8-hour and 12-hour shifts of overnight care for seniors who have sleep disturbance due to Parkinson’s disease.  Many families prefer round-the-clock care, which would take care of breakfast, lunch and dinner in addition to assistance with house chores and transportation.  The emotional and personality changes make it difficult for family members to be around their elderly loved ones, but the presence of a live-in caregiver acts as a buffer.

a-1 home care pasadena elderly careCaring for an elderly spouse by yourself is not easy, especially if your children live out-of-state, which is very common for military couples who have often traveled across the country or around the world.  If you or your spouse has served in the military but are in need of physical assistance from a caregiver, you can count on A-1 Home Care’s in-home care services for veterans in La Mirada and surrounding areas.  Experienced home care for veterans with disabilities or psychosocial needs is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Respite Care When You Need It

As loyal as you are to your spouse of 40 years or more, you need time for yourself too in order to take care of personal business, but it’s too dangerous to leave your elderly spouse alone, especially if he depends on you for mobility around the house.  In cases where adult children do not live nearby, it’s important to hire hourly in-home care, even if it’s just for four hours a day a few times a week.  Simple assistance with laundry, cooking, and cleaning will give you hours of relief, allowing you to enjoy quality companionship with your husband (or wife) rather than feel exhausted all the time.  Hiring a competent, experienced and compassionate certified nurse aide is one of the best steps you could take toward self-care.  A-1 Home Care also provides transportation to local appointments in La Mirada and neighboring cities if you are unable to drive.

Do Veteran Benefits Pay for Home Care?

If you are unsure which home care services are provided by the Veterans Benefits Administration, a knowledgeable care manager at A-1 Home Care in La Mirada would be more than happy to assist you in figuring out your options.  From hourly care to 24 hour care seven days a week, we are here to serve you and answer any questions you may have.  A-1 Home Care has been serving veterans and their families for 24 years.  We understand the fluctuating nature of senior health; therefore, we offer flexible scheduling for the changing needs of your family.  If you have parents who have served our country and yet you are unable to be there physically to assist them, you can count on A-1 Home Care’s caregiver services from a distance!

Mental health is affecting about 20% of the adults, yet less than half of them are receiving services for their conditions.  The most important thing to note is that a person’s mental health is crucial to the overall health and well-being.  Whether it is depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or PTSD, mental health problems can dramatically affect one’s quality of life.  One of the most common metal illnesses is clinical depression, and it affects more than 19 million Americans each year.

Alarmingly, there is a prevalent belief that depression is not a serious issue, and rather it is more a weakness than a medical condition.  During this Mental Health Month, we want to change that misconception about mental illness and educate people about the danger of depression and other mental health. We also highly encourage you to raise awareness about mental health around your community to hopefully get more people with mental health conditions into treatment.

At A-1 Home Care in La Mirada, we have a proud history of assistance seniors with home care needs, including those living with bipolar or depression.  Our exceptional caregivers are patient and compassionate, and they all have at least 2 years of experience as well as CPR certification to provide a peace of mind for all seniors and families involved.  We make sure to be flexible to all home care needs and requirements as our attempt to ease the stress and worries from our care recipients. Services you can expect include meal preparation, light housecleaning, hygiene management, medication reminders, mail organization, transportation, and much more. Happy senior couple cooking together at kitchen. Focus on man.

Whether you have been looking to eat healthier or are trying to find motivation to stick with healthy diets, National Nutrition Month is a great starting point for all to celebrate a healthy lifestyle and remind ourselves the importance of eating right.  For those struggling to figure out where to begin, here are some tips from the Washington Post on how to jump start your health!

First and foremost, you should formulate a plan.  Plan out your meals on a weekly basis and coordinate your grocery runs, so you know which type of healthy choices to buy and cook.  Next, try to keep the healthy foods in or near the kitchen. The more convenient it is to pick out your salad, the more likely you will make the choice of eating the salad.  In addition to eating the right food, it is also important to learn the critical part breakfast plays in our diet.  It is always a good idea to load up during breakfast, so you have the necessary energy to go on with the day, then eat lighter as the day goes on.  Loading up at dinner when you will be sleeping a few hours later might not be the best idea. Finally, get into the mindset of earning your calories.  Whether it is by exercising, portion control, or other methods, try to find a way to be disciplined and not indulge in calories.

A-1 Home Care in La Mirada only hires the most versatile and compassionate caregivers around town.  We make sure they have the experience and skills to provide meal preparation, light housecleaning, transportation, medication reminders, mail organization, and much more.  We have both live-in or hourly caregivers available , and they provide quality home care services in Kidney Disease Care,  Cancer Care, Parkinson’s Care,  Alzheimer’s Care, Brain Injury Care, Arthritis Care, Diabetic Care, Multiple Sclerosis Care, Hospice Care,Incontinence Care, and other home care challenges.  Our company covers all of Los Angeles and Orange County, including the cities of La Mirada, Santa Fe Springs, Downey, Whittier, Norwalk, La Habra, Yorba Linda,Buena Park, and Los Alamitos.

Two of our staff members at A-1 Home Care, Jackie Brown and Laura Torna, arrived at the Whittier Senior Center determined to bring some joy to the senior participants, and we ended up having one of the best times we’ve had there.  The event we planned was to celebrate Mardi Gras by having the seniors make themed masks using ribbons, sequins, glitter glues, and markers. All the senior participants displayed their creativity and made a variety of unique and colorful masks.  Some of them even got in to full Mardi Gras spirit and danced around with their mask on afterward!
